TOBY BURROWS - Markup languages and software

Markup Languages

I am familiar with SGML (particularly the Text Encoding Initiative and Encoded Archival Description), XML and HTML, and have produced a range of documents and texts encoded with each.

I directed an Australian project to publish a corpus of EAD-encoded documents over the Web: the Guide to Australian Literary Manuscripts.

Some thoughts on markup languages:

"Beyond HTML: markup languages and the future of electronic information" - an article published in Australian Academic & Research Libraries.

I recently gave a presentation on XML for staff of the Curtin University Library and Information Service.

Software

I am an experienced user of various kinds of specialized software. For text markup, I have used XMetaL, NoteTab and FrontPage, and for document publishing I have used DynaText and DynaWeb. I also used FileMaker Pro, StoryTime, and BBEdit in my work on the Berndt Museum’s Web site.

I am also familiar with various types of library management software, including OCLC, INNOPAC, and Kinetica. I am currently involved in the WAGUL LIDDAS Project Team responsible for the implementation of Fretwell-Downing's VDX document delivery software in Western Australian university libraries.
